NWSL Meeting / 2014-2015 Registration
by posted 07/25/2014

Good Evening NWSL Members,

Thank you to those that attended last night’s meeting.  We discussed several matters but the main topics were:

  1. The need to bring in younger members to bridge the gap between our U23 Summer League and the Over 30 League.

  2. The importance of providing a structured program in the Over 40 League.

  3. The roster shortages within the current teams in the over 30 teams.

  4. The Over 40 League.

  5. 2014-2015 Registration.

The results of our meeting for each topic were:

  1. It was decided that the NWSL would add an open league to expand our membership with a two part goal; to provide an outlet to those women participating in our U23 League and expanding our membership to create a structured over 40 League.  A committee was formed to start researching field options concentrating on the New Haven area and advertising the league to determine interest.  If there is anyone willing to help please let me know!

  2. We currently have three teams struggling to field a team in the upcoming season.  Our goal as a league should be to do all we can to help these teams find players.  A committee was created to become more visible on Facebook and there were offers made to reach out to networking groups in some business circles.

  3. The Over 40 League has dwindled down to such few players that it is becoming difficult to continue.  It was decided that we would change the program to be more like Pick Up with the focus being on a relaxed game and catering to those newer players.  However, we have removed the age requirement and opened it up to anyone interested.  Again, I’d like to mention that it is not meant to be high level competitive pick up.

  4. The 2014-2015 Registration is open on www.nutmegwomen.com.  Please register ASAP and let me know if you have any questions.

The benefits of these changes will take time but I am confident that with everyone’s participation this can help us grow our numbers and provide opportunities for women of all ages.  Thank you to those that attended our meeting and I hope to see all of you at the KFAC Tournament this weekend.

For the good of soccer,

Jennifer Lynch

ABOUT THE TOURNAMENT

The Kick For A Cause Women's Soccer Tournament is held every summer in Wallingford, Connecticut at Vietnam Veteran's Memorial Park.

For the first time, we are offering an Over-18 age bracket.

Over-18 and over-30 teams play 11 v 11 on regulation-sized fields; over-40 and over-50 teams play 8 v 8 on smaller fields.

Activities also include merchandise and food sales, as well as a drawing for lots of fabulous prizes. Whether you come to play, volunteer your time or just watch some great soccer games, the Kick For A Cause Tournament offers a great time for all!

THE CAUSE

In 2014, the Kick For A Cause Tournament has chosen Meriden-Wallingford Chrysalis as its charity. This local organization offers services to women and children affected by domestic violence. Meriden-Wallingford Chrysalis is based in Wallingford and Meriden, and provides emergency housing, counseling, advocacy and support for victims of physical and emotional abuse.
